It is also a farewell party for both Laura and the gallery itself. Laura, who will be greatly missed, is leaving the organization in June to move to Billings. And after four years as a volunteer labor of love, the gallery at Flicks will be closing, with its final show in June.

ArtSpot is under going many changes. ArtSpot the non-profit organization is not closing, and in fact is funded for a second year of teaching its "Art at Irle School" program. "Both Laura and I feel that the organization's mission and focus has changed. We both have loved the gallery, and have constantly been thrilled with all the local artists that we have exhibited. It is amazing that here in Valley County alone we have so many talented artists. Many of our neighbors and friends have been painting secretly for ten or twenty years. What a joy it has been to give them a place to showcase what they love to do. That was what ArtSpot gallery was about, being here for the local artists, giving them a public place for their voice, their art. We loved all four years, and it is a bittersweet ending for the gallery," said LaGree.

ArtSpot would like to give a huge thank you to all the artists that have shown at the gallery over the past four years, and to the community for coming out for every open house to support what is home grown. Be sure to stop by this Friday, May 6th and celebrate four years of a successful local gallery and share in a toast to Laura.

ArtSpot will be hosting Fort Peck Arts in the Park, July 23 from 11am to 6pm, and artists don't forget to participate in the final show in June, the theme is birds, in conjunction with "Wings Across the Big Sky". This year the exhibit is truly "Fully Loaded", for the first time there is artwork representing each one of the county's high schools: Hinsdale, Fraser, Nashua, Opheim, and Glasgow. For this year's showing students created works from wire and paper sculptures to mosaics, acrylic painting, charcoal, ceramics and more. This is a tremendous display of local home grown artistry. All of the time and dedication it took each student to create their work over the past year is deserving of our support. The fine arts, especially at the high school level, is a cause worth championing, specifically in our rural area where for many students art becomes and outlet and voice of personal expression unparalleled by other school activities. Having a place for our youth to present their art is both exciting and necessary. It allows the creator to complete the cycle of creation; from the nothingness of blank page to public exhibition. And for many the step of public exhibition can be daunting. Please help us do what we can to support area youth art.

Don't miss this once a year opportunity to support our creative and artistically talented students. Join ArtSpot co-directors and participating student representatives in celebrating the 2011 exhibition at the open house and First Friday Artwalk, on Friday, March 4th from 4-7pm. Refreshments are provided. Enjoy downtown Glasgow with the Artwalk and other participating galleries, including the Glasgow Goodkind Gallery, 5-7:30pm exhibiting work from the 1st Annual Juried University of Montana students show, and Creative Elements, 4-5:30pm showing work by Donna Dascher.

ArtSpot is a non-profit 501(c)3 arts organization, whose mission is to inspire and promote creativity. Walt didn't pick up the brush and palette, until he put down punching a time clock. It wasn't until Walt retired twelve years ago that painting took over as a daily passion in his life. During the whole month of January all the students from Irle, grades K-3 have art hanging on the walls inside Flicks, and that is a lot of gorgeous art. ArtSpot co-directors and volunteers have been working in the classrooms with the students since last August. The students have been learning the seven basic concepts of art and design. In this show each student was asked to select their favorite piece of art that they created. Stop by Flicks with your family and friends and support all of our young artists, and marvel at the range of self expression that art and creativity can produce.

For more information about how you can donate time, goods and more to Artspots community and educational programs visit the ArtSpot blog at http://artspotgallery.blogspot.com or email us at artspotgallery@gmail.com. Artspot's February art will be a first time solo show by watercolor artist Walter Thorn of Glasgow. Currently showing at the FMDH gallery is the photography of Ellen Lloyd.ArtSpot Galleryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11022028578552465316noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-298129359427997619.post-22718250606259604572010-11-30T10:17:00.001-08:002010-11-30T12:50:58.400-08:00December's Exhibition: Community Show

Join all your friends and neighbors on Friday, December 3rd for the Downtown Glasgow Art Walk and opening reception at Flicks for ArtSpot's Community Show Artists. This exhibit will be showing through the month, from November 1st through November 29th. The opening reception will take place on Friday, November 5th from 4-7 pm; refreshments are provided.

This is Lindsay’s first solo exhibit with ArtSpot. Working with large as life canvas sizes, Lindsay’s use of vibrant color grabs the viewer’s attention, drawing them into the landscapes as if transported directly into the painting. Lindsay, a native of Montana, has been drawing and painting since she could first put a pencil in her hand, using them to broaden her perception of the world. Lindsay states, “I paint for personal expression and simply because it makes me happy. I want the joy that my artwork provides for myself to be realized by the viewer.” With nature as Lindsay’s inspiration she shares the following, “I love to manipulate the paint to imitate textures produced in nature and I am exploring the depiction of light. Natural luminosity fascinates me and in these pieces I have only begun to explore the perception of light on a flat surface.”

Support your local artists and art community by meeting with Lindsay Godfrey on Friday, November 5 from 4-7pm at Flicks and then taking part in the First Friday Art Walk, which includes an opening reception at Glasgow Goodkind Gallery from 5-9pm.

ArtSpot’s December show is a community show. This exhibit is open to all residents of Valley County. To participate in the December Community Show please email artspotgallery@gmail.com or call 526-7262 and have your pieces wall ready, wire hangers only. An artist reception for him will take place on Friday, April 2nd from 4-7 pm. The reception is free, open to the public, and light refreshments will be provided. ArtSpot is located inside Flicks in downtown Glasgow.

Jerry graduated from Glasgow High School, enlisted in the U.S. Navy for a four-year term, taught high school science for several years, and then worked as a criminal investigator with the federal government. Along the way a keen eye and love of photography developed as well as an interest in local history, which are evident in some of the photographs on display entitled “Lonesome Prairie”. These beautiful photos are of abandoned but not forgotten Valley County structures from times gone by. Come down and see if you can identify where Jerry took some of his “Lonesome Prairie” as well as additional photographs currently on display.

To show your work at ArtSpot or to learn more about any of Jerry’s photos please email artspotgallery at gmail dot com.

Photo caption: Lonesome Prairie Albert Craig Ranch by Jerry JacobsonArtSpot Galleryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11022028578552465316noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-298129359427997619.post-787616274758171902010-03-23T12:33:00.000-07:002010-03-23T12:36:31.942-07:00

In Butte, the Industrial Revolution collided with the romance of the frontier, corporate capitalism battled organized labor, and human appetite laid waste to land and water, yielding vast fortunes for a few and a tragic environmental legacy for the people left behind. Those people are the heart of the film--miners, their families, the working class neighborhoods they created amidst danger and hardship.
HIGH PLAINS WINTER, 2006, is a short experimental documentary film that looks at the winter season in relation to human experience. Particular to the open high plains of Montana, and other areas of the American West, is a landscape that in its sheer scope can shrink anything of human scale. When winter settles on this landscape the subtle colors and sounds that come to life in the growing season revert to an even simpler palette, often a near monotone: white hills and blue sky. The wind blows. HIGH PLAINS WINTER is an attempt to understand what becomes of the human spirit in such a landscape and season. Through color and black and white super 8 and 16mm images of snowscapes traversed by large-scale powerlines, small strings of feeding cattle, and the occasional grain bin dotting the whiteness, humans find a way to leave traces in what very often seems an environment hostile to their existence. As people gather to watch and participate in the winter sport Ski-Joring, this act becomes another way of coping with or even celebrating, the long winter season.
HIGH PLAINS WINTER, a ten minute short film by Cindy Stillwell, will be a part of the Sundance Film Festival 2006.
