ArtSpot Open House and Farewell Celebration

This Friday, May 6th from 4-7 is ArtSpot's exhibition open house featuring the artwork of co-directors Laura Gittings-Carlson and Toni Marie LaGree. It is also a farewell party for both Laura and the gallery itself. Laura, who will be greatly missed, is leaving the organization in June to move to Billings. And after four years as a volunteer labor of love, the gallery at Flicks will be closing, with its final show in June.

ArtSpot is under going many changes. ArtSpot the non-profit organization is not closing, and in fact is funded for a second year of teaching its "Art at Irle School" program. "Both Laura and I feel that the organization's mission and focus has changed. We both have loved the gallery, and have constantly been thrilled with all the local artists that we have exhibited. It is amazing that here in Valley County alone we have so many talented artists. Many of our neighbors and friends have been painting secretly for ten or twenty years. What a joy it has been to give them a place to showcase what they love to do. That was what ArtSpot gallery was about, being here for the local artists, giving them a public place for their voice, their art. We loved all four years, and it is a bittersweet ending for the gallery," said LaGree.

ArtSpot would like to give a huge thank you to all the artists that have shown at the gallery over the past four years, and to the community for coming out for every open house to support what is home grown. Be sure to stop by this Friday, May 6th and celebrate four years of a successful local gallery and share in a toast to Laura.

ArtSpot will be hosting Fort Peck Arts in the Park, July 23 from 11am to 6pm, and artists don't forget to participate in the final show in June, the theme is birds, in conjunction with "Wings Across the Big Sky". For more information or questions email artspotgallery@gmail.com or contact Toni at 228-9072.

Annual Valley County High School Exhibit

High School Exhibit Fully Loaded
It is time once again for ArtSpot's Valley County High School exhibition. This year the exhibit is truly "Fully Loaded", for the first time there is artwork representing each one of the county's high schools: Hinsdale, Fraser, Nashua, Opheim, and Glasgow. For this year's showing students created works from wire and paper sculptures to mosaics, acrylic painting, charcoal, ceramics and more. This is a tremendous display of local home grown artistry. All of the time and dedication it took each student to create their work over the past year is deserving of our support. The fine arts, especially at the high school level, is a cause worth championing, specifically in our rural area where for many students art becomes and outlet and voice of personal expression unparalleled by other school activities. Having a place for our youth to present their art is both exciting and necessary. It allows the creator to complete the cycle of creation; from the nothingness of blank page to public exhibition. And for many the step of public exhibition can be daunting. Please help us do what we can to support area youth art.

Don't miss this once a year opportunity to support our creative and artistically talented students. Join ArtSpot co-directors and participating student representatives in celebrating the 2011 exhibition at the open house and First Friday Artwalk, on Friday, March 4th from 4-7pm. Refreshments are provided. Enjoy downtown Glasgow with the Artwalk and other participating galleries, including the Glasgow Goodkind Gallery, 5-7:30pm exhibiting work from the 1st Annual Juried University of Montana students show, and Creative Elements, 4-5:30pm showing work by Donna Dascher.

ArtSpot is a non-profit 501(c)3 arts organization, whose mission is to inspire and promote creativity. We are always looking for volunteers and donations, and all donations are always 100% tax deductible. For more information about how you can be of service contact
artspotgallery@gmail.com or call 228-9072. For more information about ArtSpot events log on to http://artspotgallery.blogspot.com .

Walt Thorn February's Artist

Local artist, Walt Thorn, is exhibiting his collection of water color paintings at ArtSpot during the month of February. Walt didn't pick up the brush and palette, until he put down punching a time clock. It wasn't until Walt retired twelve years ago that painting took over as a daily passion in his life. In this first time solo show at ArtSpot, Walt's work encompasses landscapes from Montana as well as the southwest.

Join Walt for his opening reception at Flicks this Friday, February 4th from 4-7pm. Refreshments and heated indoor seating provided.

Irle School Students Artwork on Display

Take a break from the cold and warm your heart by visiting ArtSpot's January artists, the students of Irle Elementary School. During the whole month of January all the students from Irle, grades K-3 have art hanging on the walls inside Flicks, and that is a lot of gorgeous art. ArtSpot co-directors and volunteers have been working in the classrooms with the students since last August. The students have been learning the seven basic concepts of art and design. In this show each student was asked to select their favorite piece of art that they created. Stop by Flicks with your family and friends and support all of our young artists, and marvel at the range of self expression that art and creativity can produce.

For more information about how you can donate time, goods and more to Artspots community and educational programs visit the ArtSpot blog at http://artspotgallery.blogspot.com or email us at artspotgallery@gmail.com. Artspot's February art will be a first time solo show by watercolor artist Walter Thorn of Glasgow. Currently showing at the FMDH gallery is the photography of Ellen Lloyd.
